***This calendar is an example of a general timeline to help give an idea of what to expect and the level of commitment that's required from an egg donor. Please note, there are many variables that will determine how each phase progresses with each individual journey. A. Doctors Appointment: Make appointment with your family doctor/ GP to tell them about your plan to become an egg donor and ask for a referral to a fertility clinic, (if you do not have a doctor, you can get a referral at a walk-in clinic). With this referral, you can now schedule your initial consult at the fertility clinic. B. Initial Consult: Depending on everyone's availability, there may be a wait for this appointment. As part of the qualification process, you will meet the fertility doctor where you will discuss your medical history, have an ultrasound and arrange to have blood work done. This is the perfect time to ask all of your medical related questions and to gain a more thorough explanation of the IVF cycle process. Come prepared with your questions written down and intake forms filled out prior. C. Counselling & Blood Work: The fertility doctor will have given you some homework 1) blood work- with your requisition, go to any local lab to get this done. 2) book counselling appointment- using the list of recommended counselors/ psychologists, arrange a time as soon as possible as there can be a wait for this appointment. D. Review of Legal Contract: Once you've completed the blood work and counselling appointment, we will send you a legal contract between you and the intended parents. Currently, a legal contract isn't mandatory, but is highly recommended and helps protect all parties involved. E. Receipts for Expenses: As you get closer to the end of each month, compile any receipts that you've accumulated and send them in for reimbursement. F. Signing Legals and IVF Cycle Planning: A fertility lawyer will go over the contract with you to ensure you have a thorough understanding of the current laws surrounding egg donation in Canada. You can now start planning for your IVF cycle. Look for a window in the next 3 months that is best suited for you.
